Wynlife, Inspired by Scientific Discovery
In 2001, world-renowned scientist Chi-Huey Wong, Ph.D. made a significant discovery while studying the Reishi mushroom, a traditional remedy used for over 4,000 years in Asia. Through careful analysis, Dr. Wong isolated the biological component containing the most relevant bioactivity or otherwise, medicinal benefits. The isolated component was named F3 Fraction. Due to its significance, Dr. Wong recruited the best scientists from around the world with expertise in polysaccharide and glycoprotein research to study it. Through their diligence they were able to begin to understand the mysterious secret of how the active components of Reishi polysaccharides function in the human immune system. A scientific breakthrough was made!
Two years later, Dr. Wong was invited to Taiwan to become director of the Genomics Research Center (GRC) of Academia Sinica, the most respected research institute in the country. The Academia Sinica is a world leader in herbal and nature-based product research. Dr. Wong´s team of scientists continued to analyze various aspects of F3 Fraction relating to anti-virus, anti-tumor, immune modulating, stem-cell proliferation and dendritic cell proliferation activities. The potential health benefits were staggering. Research demonstrated that F3 Fraction could stimulate activity and proliferation of umbilical cord stem cells, natural killer cells and macrophages, which defend the body´s immune system against cancer. These studies suggested that F3 Fraction was capable of modulating the immune system as well as promoting cancer-fighting activities and could be used to improve the immune functions of people suffering from degenerative diseases such as cancer and AIDS. Although, his research was successful, Dr. Wong still needed to navigate the practical hurdles in the pharmaceutical industry to bring his innovative biotechnology to market – (1) secure intellectual property rights, (2) identify a company to develop the product, and (3) go through FDA processes to bring F3 Fraction to the public as a pharmaceutical product.

Faced with these market obstacles, Dr. Wong turned to Dr. Chris Fan.
Dr. Fan and Dr. Wong met in 1997 in San Diego, California while helping to found a local community center focused on promoting the health and well-being of its members. They were mutually impressed with each other´s scientific accomplishments and passion for community involvement. Within years, they were exchanging ideas for scientific research and laying the foundation for an important friendship based on trust and respect.
Company founder Chris Fan, Ph.D., is a prominent biochemist and entrepreneur responsible for creating and managing two separate biotech companies, which were successfully sold to Eli Lilly and the Genzyme Corporation. For his dedication, he was awarded “Entrepreneur of the Year” by Arthur Young and Venture Magazine. Dr. Fan is not only a savvy business man, he is also a committed scientist who in the ‘80s was responsible for leading the way in immuno-assay research by isolating antibodies from rabbit serum and developing one of the first rapid one-step pregnancy tests. His product dominated the market for ten years. He was also able to break the monopoly on the Strep Throat Diagnostic Test Kit used in leading hospitals and doctor´s offices by producing a higher quality product more efficiently. Today, this test kit continues to hold over 50% of the world market share. Dr. Fan was interested in Dr. Wong´s research findings and was honored to have the opportunity to develop them into accessible health treatments. According to Dr. Fan, rarely is one person given the opportunity to have such a positive impact on society.
The scientist responsible for Wynlife´s inspiration is Chi-Huey Wong, Ph.D., an international authority in carbohydrate chemistry and biology who continues to make innovative breakthroughs in the field of biochemistry and new drug development. He owns 60 scientific patents and has published over 500 peer-reviewed papers. He was also the first scientist to successfully mass produce complex carbohydrates using enzymatic reactions. Dr. Wong is an elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Science, the United States National Academy of Sciences, and Academia Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan. He has also received the International Enzyme Engineering Award, the Presidential Green Chemistry Award and the American Chemical Society Award for creative work in synthetic organic chemistry. President Lee of Academia Sinica, a respected Nobel laureate, has suggested that Dr. Wong may be a favorite candidate for the Nobel Prize for his scientific as well as technological achievements. Dr. Wong firmly believes that undertaking important research in genomics and proteomics is critical to understanding the mechanism of human disease and producing new medicines.
